Review Drawing heavily on the poignant novel by Jules Renard on which it is based, Poil de carotte is a modest yet appealing film which has stood the test of time mainly because of the quality of its acting performances and its inherent humanity. It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte. The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.

安托万•勒孔特是一位电视台的高管，对上阿谀奉承，对下尖酸刻薄。对董事会瞒报哄骗，对同事和下属打压恐吓，是不折不扣的混蛋。妻子索朗热温柔贤淑对他无微不至，但是他却外遇不断，甚至以工作为筹码与同事发生不正当关系。终于安托万的所作所为引起了公司员工的不满，一位被他无端开除的员工，闯进办公室枪击了他。当安托万从医院醒来的时候，一切都大变样了。妻子索朗热和枪击他的人在一起出双入对，自己也从公司高管变成了普通的天气预报员。在公司中的领导地位不在，让他受尽了屈辱，索朗热的不理不睬也让他百思不得其解。走投无路的他被朋友带到了一个地下拳击场，里面都是在工作中不得志的中年男性，在这里通过拳击找到自己的尊严。一场鏖战之后，安托万决定按自己...

夏天快要来临的时候，巴黎女子戴尔芬（玛丽·瑞莱 Marie Rivière 饰）却陷入了忧伤与烦闷中。刚刚和前男友结束恋爱关系，本来约好与她一同度假的女友也放了她鸽子。尽管其它许多好心的亲友邀请她一同度假，但是她却一一拒绝了。每个人都有了自己的度假计划，只有她看似要独身 一人困在巴黎过冗长的夏天。她寻寻觅觅，终日游荡在各处，希望能够找到自己的情人，但是所遇之人皆不能触动她心。在马赛海边，她听说了关于绿光的传说：谁能看到绿光，谁就能得到幸福。落寞的她打算返回巴黎，在车站，一个男子对着正在阅读小说《白痴》的她微笑，戴尔芬似乎觉察到了什么，她主动邀请男子去海边看日落。在灿烂的光辉中，男子对她表白，而她却固执地等到绿光才给出答案。 本片获得第43届威尼斯电影节金狮奖。
