Others who meet the thing in the night suffer likewise, and with increasing severity; it seems to be able to "absorb" radiation from any source, growing bigger and bigger. What is it?? How do you destroy a thing that "feeds" on energy?

One of the five sci-fi's I remember every single detail of from my earliest days as a fan. For the genre, I think it's considerably above average. The moor is nicely atmospheric. There's one of every character in the book the good guy, the bad guy, the local sheriff, the lovely damsel, her father the old professor, etc. The scene where we're looking for the first time through the window of the ship and the visitor peeks out from the other side is easily as good as the three-fingered-hand-on-the-shoulder in War of the Worlds. Nice character to the visitor, for whom, like Karloff's Frankenstein, we end up feeling some empathy .

This is an interesting yet bizarre little tale of a fictional (as far as I know, anyway) experiment performed during the Stalin-controlled years in the USSR. The main character is changed from a woman into a man. This is part of a larger plan to change more women into men and have a stronger work-force/army, etc. It's a very in-depth character study of the main character, who tries to fit into a world that she (now 'he') doesn't really understand, especially since she's now a man ... Stalin dislikes the results of the experiments and has the scientist killed. The main character then goes off to live a life as a simple, unknown everyday Soviet, but is inexplicably drawn into larger and larger schemes (somewhat reminiscent of "Forrest Gump" in that way). (s)He has run-ins with different important characters, including his ex-boyfriend from his days of being a woman, as well as going on a demented quest for the nurse with whom he possibly fell in love after the operation... However, he is trapped in his life as an important Soviet married man, and in the end makes a huge sacrifice for his country (unwillingly), and the movie goes from there to an ending that is possibly happy, yet still somehow incredibly depressing.

伊朗电影杰作《风之棋局》（1976）今年完成修复并参与多个电影节，此前其实很少人看过！这部片在1976年曾入选德黑兰国际电影节并举行试映会，可惜放映被恶意妨碍——放映机发生故障，菲林亦遭到破坏，后来电影节评委将视频从竞赛中撤出。在没有发行商愿意投资的情况下，制片人再没将视频送到任何电影节或举办任何公开放映（据说著名影人Henri Langlois、罗塞里尼和萨耶哲雷在一些私人放映中看过，赞不绝口）。1979年伊斯兰革命后，此片更因其非伊斯兰教内容被禁。随后原底片丢失，坊间只流传一个经审查的低清VHS版本。 佚失四十多年后，导演的儿子竟在一个卖旧戏服配饰的跳蚤市场上，偶然地发现了此片的35毫米底片及声片！他立即买下并送到法国。视频由电影基金会修复，过程更由导演及其女儿亲自监督，此片的摄影师Houshang Baharlou亦亲身参与调色工序...
